It's Time for Main Stage, Awards, Expo, and More on Day 3 of GDC 2023

The stage is set for another stellar day of talks, roundtables, networking, and more at the Game Developers Conference. The GDC Expo opens today, core sessions have begun, and the Main Stage is set for "The Future of Play"—along with the IGF Awards and Game Developers Choice Awards!

The GDC Expo opens at 10:00am today, so be sure to head over there to check out our amazing sponsors and exhibitors. And don't forget to get to the GDC Main Stage in West Hall early to secure your spot for the GDC Main Stage on "The Future of Play." Taking place at 12:30pm, this special event features talks from Chandana Ekanayake, Jen Oneal, and Robert Anderberg.

Wednesday's incredible day of talks and showcases culminates in the Independent Games Festival Awards and Game Developers Choice Awards, taking place at the Main Stage starting at 6:30pm (with a livestream on Twitch). You won't want to miss it! 

You can pick up your badge between 8:00am and 6:00pm at registration, located in South Hall, Street Level. Be sure to complete your registration and log into Swapcard so you can start learning and networking.

Preparing AI Systems for 'God of War: Ragnarök'

Location: Room 303, South Hall
Time: 9:00 am - 10:00 am

Description: "This talk goes into multiple AI systems that were either implemented from scratch or improved massively based on the needs of the new game."

The Many Dimensions of Kirby

Location: Room 303, South Hall
Time: 10:30 am - 11:30 am

Description: "One year after the launch of Kirby and the Forgotten Land, developers Shinya Kumazaki and Tatsuya Kamiyama discuss how they brought traditional Kirby gameplay into a 3D world, as well as examine some of the new features in the game, including the fan-favorite Mouthful Mode."

GDC Main Stage: The Future of Play

Location: GDC Main Stage, West Hall, Street Level
Time: 12:30 pm - 1:30 pm

Description: "In this installment of the GDC Main Stage, ‘The Future of Play’ is a multi-part presentation about how the game industry is expanding; opening up to new perspectives, opportunities, and challenges. It’s about looking forward to the ideas and ideals gaining ground in the industry, and how to make them work for you."

Talent Shortage and New Ways To Rethink Hiring: How Do You Fit In

Description: "This recruitment team will break down the current state of hiring in the industry. Find out answers to the following questions and more: How can your company stay competitive? How can your company grow diverse and inclusive game development teams? How can you hire from other industries?"

How To Make AAA-Looking Games Like 'A Plague Tale: Requiem' with 20 Artists

Location: Room 2010, West Hall
Time: 3:30 pm - 4:30 pm

Description: "Environment artist Greg Binetruy will share how Asobo Studio's Art Team managed to create the strong and critically acclaimed graphics for A Plague Tale: Requiem—often compared with the biggest AAA blockbusters—with only 15-20 artists for a development time of three years... which included a pandemic lockdown and two office relocations!"
