alt.ctrl.GDC Returns to GDC 2022, and Submissions Are Now Open

It's back! Game Developers Conference is thrilled that alt.ctrl.GDC is coming to GDC 2022, and submissions are now open.

The 8th annual alt.ctrl.GDC showcases some of the most unique, offbeat, and innovative controllers in modern gaming. Visitors can come into this collaborative community space to play video games using alternative controllers—and meet the developers behind these interesting projects.

This exciting GDC exhibit is being co-helmed by veteran indie curator John Polson. Organizers welcome submissions of one-of-a-kind game peripherals, contraptions, and novelties that enhance game experiences, challenge our expectations, encourage sustainability, and improve accessibility for gamers and the industry at large. If you're looking for inspiration, head here for our archive of previous exhibitors.

The deadline to submit is Friday, December 3, 2021, and you can apply directly here. If your entry is chosen, your team will be asked to showcase their product to GDC attendees at the alt.ctrl.GDC exhibit area. You'll also receive two All Access (or equivalent) passes and two Expo (or equivalent) passes to GDC 2022, equalling four total passes for the event.

Game Developers Conference is committed to health and safety at GDC 2022, including for alt.ctrl.GDC. The event will be organized in accordance with the Informa AllSecure health and safety standards. GDC will feature fixed hand sanitization units throughout the facility, contactless registration, enhanced cleaning, and more. GDC works in conjunction with state and local health authorities and will adhere to all regulations and guidelines at the time of the event.

Additionally, the Moscone Convention Center was awarded the Global Biorisk Advisory Council (GBAC) STAR facility accreditation by ISSA, the world’s leading trade association for the cleaning industry. Considered the gold standard for safe facilities, the GBAC program was designed to control the risks associated with infectious agents, including the virus responsible for COVID-19.

The alt.ctrl.GDC showcase takes place March 23 to March 25, 2022, during the final three days of GDC 2022 at the Moscone Convention Center in San Francisco—and entrants have until Friday, December 3, 2021 to apply. For more information, including how to submit, visit alt.ctrl.GDC's website. You're also welcome to contact John Polson via email with any additional questions.
